As the May 2 fight is fast approaching, Manny Pacquiao said he will not entertain any interviews until the official media day, which is on April 15.
The Los Angeles Times reported that starting Saturday, the door to Pacquiao's training room in Hollywood will remain closed and will be locked before and after working hours. The Filipino fighter said that it is his first time to ask for a time to focus on his training for the upcoming fight against Floyd Mayweather.
"This is just the first time I'm asking for time to focus, there's something I need to achieve in this camp, especially mentally," said Pacquiao.
The 37-year-old fighter added that it is a big responsibility for him to win the fight against Floyd Mayweather. He states that the fight is important to him since it is a "once-in-a-lifetime fight."
"Since the red carpet until now, we've done much press - triple any other fight - he's a little tired of it," his coach, Freddie Roach, was quoted as saying.
In related news, former UFC fighter Dashon Johnson has joined the lineup of the eight-division champion's sparring partners, writes Rappler. Johnson reportedly believes that Manny Pacquiao will defeat Floyd Mayweather at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
"Pacquiao's work ethic isn't like anything I've ever seen, he's such a hard worker and has a solid group of guys around him always pushing him to the limit and giving him positive encouragement," said Johnson. "He's one of the hardest workers I've ever seen and I've been around and trained with a lot of world champions."
Johnson, who is known as "Fly Boy," has a record of 15-19-3 with five knockouts. He had fought against Sergio More, a former WBC junior middleweight titleholder.
