Lauren Hill, the inspirational freshman basketball player at Mount St. Joseph University, died on Friday, April 10.
Although the 19-year-old had terminal brain tumor, her eyes were reportedly set on making it to her first college basketball game, CBSNews noted.
Last October, when CBS News met Hill, she was already so sick she could hardly dribble. However, that didn't stop her from making it to a 6 a.m. practice. Dying was the last the thing on her mind.
"Because I feel like I'd be a quitter," Hill said.
Hill said she wanted to wear that jersey and feel like a superhero again because that's how putting on the jersey and that number made her feel. Her number was 22.
The college basketball player was given just months to live after doctors found that the tumor in her brain had spread. Lauren was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in October 2014.
According to HollywoodLife, despite her strife with cancer, Lauren never gave up her dream of playing basketball and had been accepted to play for Division III School Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati. She finally got her wish in November.
The NCAA switched schedules around to allow Lauren to play with Mount St. Joseph before she got too sick. While she finally took the court with her team, almost 10,000 people showed up at the game in support of the zealous and inspirational athlete.
After one of her 6 a.m. practices, Lauren said she was spreading out alertness and teaching people how to live in the moment as the next moment's not promised. She also said that anything can happen at any given moment.
"What matters is right now," she said.
Following her death, it was revealed that she was trying to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer with a foundation called Layup4Lauren, which has so far raised $1.4 million.
Lauren's coach Dan Benjamin said she's made an impact on the world, more than he has or ever will do. Benjamin reportedly got numerous emails and phone calls from people across the globe who wanted to share her story.
