Linda Thompson, Bruce Jenner's second wife, wrote an essay in the wake of the former Olympian's sex change confession to Diane Sawyer.

Brandon and Brody's mother wrote for Huffington Post that if she had known about Bruce Jenner's sex change issues then, she wouldn't have married him.

"If Bruce had told me about his gender issue when we first began getting romantically involved, I would not have married him. Pure and simple," she said, however she added that, "I would never have experienced the joy, the honor, the privilege of being the mother of the two most precious gifts I have ever known, Brandon and Brody."

Linda Thompson, who went on to marry David Foster following her divorce from Bruce Jenner, also recalled the night the former Olympian confessed to her about going on a sex change operation.

"When Brody was about 18 months old and Brandon was about 3 and a half years old, Bruce came to me one day with a very somber look on his face and said, 'There's something about me that I really need to tell you, something you need to know.'"

"I truly thought he might possibly tell me he had had an affair while on the road. But that's not what he wanted to confess to me. Bruce told me that he identified as a woman."

It was a time when transgender issues were still unknown so Bruce Jenner's second wife was naturally confused. The former Olympian explained that it's like living in the wrong skin. When looking at the mirror, he sees a masculine body in a female mind.

After Bruce Jenner's sex change confession, his second wife appealed that he needs the understanding of everybody now.

"Bruce has already 'gone through the fire,' suffered unfathomable discomfort and pain, been held prisoner in his own flesh. It is certainly not our place to judge him or others who may feel trapped, ostracized, or alone," she wrote.
