After remaining on top of the British throne for nearly 63 years and 47 days, Queen Elizabeth II has become the longest serving monarch in the British history. She has surpassed the duration of Queen Victoria's reign.
"People of Bridlington and visitors to our town and resort," yelled David Hinde who claims to the world's loudest town crier. He added, "Today is a very special day. At this time of 4.18pm on the 9th of September 2015, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has become Britain's longest reigning monarch, passing the record set by Queen Victoria with a total of 23,226 days, 16 hours and 18 minutes - over 63 years, seven months and two days."
Amidst the cheering crowds, Queen Elizabeth II , longest serving Monarch confessed that she had never wished to achieve the milestone. "It is not one to which I have ever aspired...But I thank you all," Her Majesty said.
According to the Mirror, the 89-year-old Queen carried out the day with a "business as usual" attitude. Reports said that she had inaugurated the new Scottish Border Railway and had boarded the train with Prince Phillip and Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland's first minister. She travelled from "Edinburg Waverly to the Borders town."
"Prince Philip and I are very grateful for the warmth of your welcome on this occasion." Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-serving monarch told the crowds at the opening ceremony in Tweedbank. Her Majesty added, "Many including you, First Minister, have also kindly noted another significance attaching to today, although it is not one to which I have ever aspired."
She continued, "Inevitably, a long life can pass by many milestones; my own is no exception."
The longest serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II wore Victoria's diamond Bow Brooch along with a turquoise and blue coat by Karl Ludwig and a hat by Angela Kelly on her special day, the Mirror noted. Report said the Queen wore the brooch pay her tribute to her great-great grandmother Victoria, who died in 1901.
"Long May She Reign," scrolled through the London's BT Tower from the sunrise to the sunset to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's milestone of becoming the longest serving British monarch.
