According to a recent update a "King Kong vs. Godzilla 2015" could soon be a reality. IGN.com reported that Legendary Pictures was looking forward to shifting its "Kong: Skull Island" set from Universal Pictures to Warner Bros for a "King Kong" and "Godzilla" mashup.
"Skull Island" is scheduled to be released on March 10, 2017. The prequel would be followed by Gareth Edwards' Godzilla which has been planned for June 8, 2018. Superherohype.com compared the King Kong vs. Godzilla 2015 feature to the eighth wonder of the world.
Reports said that the "Kong: Skull Island" is being directed by "The Kings of Summer's" Jordan Vogt-Roberts. Its engrossing script had been contributed by John Gatins and Max Borenstein.
The "King Kong vs. Godzilla (2015)" mashup would star "Straight Outta Compton" actors Jason Mitchell and Corey Hawkins along with Brie Larson and Tom Hiddleston, Variety reported.
Superherohype.com reported that it would not be the first clash between "King Kong" and "Godzilla" movie. They reportedly said that "Godzilla's" third feature in 1962 was "King Kong vs. Godzilla" movie for which the sizes of the both the monsters had to be remastered to beat the odds.
"Sources close to the situation say while this is not a done deal," IGN reported. The report added, "things are moving forward and that the idea is to have future Kong films possibly cross over (mashup) with Godzilla films, to which WB owns the sequel rights."
Legendary Pictures had reportedly struck a co-production cum distribution deal with the Warner Bros. in 2013. The deal had even covered Gareth Edwards' "Godzilla" which was released in 2014. "Godzilla (2014)" had grossed over $529 million worldwide, EW reported.
Reports said that Legendary had worked out a similar arrangement with Universal after parting ways with Warner Bros. in 2014.Universal was to only distribute the film, without holding any financial stake in "Kong: Skull Island."
The plot of the epic "King Kong vs. Godzilla (2015)" mashup is still being kept under a wrap.
