"Working for the last few nights with the incredible 3rd Dan Tae Kwon Do master and actor, Joon Gi, has been insanely fun and so inspiring," said Jovovich. "Makes me want to go back to class and brush up on my martial arts skills."
Representatives for his agency, Namoo Actors, confirmed his casting, but did not explicate the details of his character or impact of the role on the plot development of the film. The Korean outlet Asia Today, published the statement from officials at Namoo Actors, along with further details about the project.
"Lee Joon Gi is cast in 'Resident Evil 6," said a spokesperson for the agency. "He is filming in South Africa."
Lee recently wrapped up the MBC supernatural series, "Scholar Who Walks the Night" and also starred in the Chinese film, "Begin Again."
The "Resident Evil" franchise has generated more than $1 billion worldwide, since the release of the first installment in 2002. Based on a CAPCOM video game, "Resident Evil" is centered on Alice, a woman who is charged with the daunting task stopping an onslaught of zombies, that were created by the Umbrella Corporation. Milla Jovovich has portrayed Alice since the launch of the film series.
According to reports, "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" or "Resident Evil 6," began filming in Cape Town, South Africa, in August 2015. The film is slated for North American release in January 2017.
