"Wonderland" struggles to hit the 1 million mark viewers despite topping the Korean box office since its premiere.
The romance sci-fi movie sparked the curiosity of the viewers after boasting a star-studded cast. From award winning Tang Wei to Jung Yoo Mi, Choi Woo Shik, and the lovely duo Park Bo Gum and Suzy, fans were looking forward to watching the movie on the big screen.
Helmed and written by the renowned director Kim Tae Yong, "Wonderland" depicts the stories of people who subscribed to the app called Wonderland, which allows subscribers to connect to the their deceased loved ones through artificial intelligence (AI).
In the drama, Bae Suzy plays as flight attendant Jung In, who uses Wonderland to communicate with her commatosed boyfriend Tae Joo (Park Bo Gum).
Meanwhile, Jung Yu Mi plays as Wonderland's senior planner, Hae Ri (Jung Yu Mi), who works alongside the service's architect, Bai Li (Tang Wei), and newcomer Hyun Soo (Choi Woo Shik).
However, despite the film ranking first in the Korean box office, "Wonderland" fails to reach the success of previous movies that reached the same spot.
'Wonderland' Shows Weak Performance Despite Topping the Box Office
In a report, the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for movies garnered 511,667 cumulative viewers as of June 11, while 20,215 moviegoers were recorded on the 11th.
With this, "Wonderland" continued to reign the top spot in the box office for 7 consecutive days.
Prior to this, the romance sci-fi movie entered the box office, ranking first during its debut.
Meanwhile, "Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga," which stars Chris Hemsworth, lands in second place, garnering 14,847 moviegoers on June 11 with cumulative viewers of 1,449,919 from the release date.
Landing in third place is "following," with 9,904 moviegoers on the same day, with 1,154,298 cumulative viewers from the debut.
To recall, a slew of Korean movies became a huge hit in 2024.
The occult-mystery film "Exhuma," which stars Kim Go Eun, Lee Do Hyun, Yoo Hae Jin, and Choi Min Sik, surpassed the 1 million mark in less than three days from its debut.
Meanwhile, "The Roundup: Punishment" also surpassed 1 million moviegoers in two days since the release, making it the fastest 2024 film to reach such a milestone.
'Wonderland' Teasers Spark Park Bo Gum, Suzy Dating Rumors
Ahead of the theatrical release, "Wonderland" dropped still cuts, teasing fans with what to expect in the upcoming movie.
Interestingly, viewers were delighted to see the sweet chemistry between Park Bo Gum and Suzy's character.
With this, fans are shipping the duo and speculating that they are dating in real life.
