An episode recently aired of the Korean drama series "When The Phone Rings," has led to a host of controversy — above all in its treatment of some delicate geopolitical realities.

In the episode aired on January 5, a scene many took as a satirical depiction of the Gaza war and hostage crisis sparked backlash on social media.

X (formerly Twitter) users took to sharing their frustrations, and some even inquired about the point of the scene with the villainous duo Izmail and Paltima.

Even the episode's translation has come under fire, as some viewers claim translation inaccuracies played a role in the drama.

On X, user Trusfrated Noona (@KontentChingu) urged MBC Drama to clarify the situation, emphasizing the sensitivity of the issue for both international and Korean audiences.
The episode sparked outrage, with dozens of users posting online for producers of the show to apologize.
Most lamented the accountability of executives, actors, and screenwriters who participated in the production.
As one viewer suggested, "The screenwriter indeed is wrong but the actors who played the scene could've said anything if they found it wrong!" Another said, "Should we boycott the highly rated show?"
Here's what other users have to say:
They're talking about Korean hostages but what about people like Dr Hussam Abu Saffiah who isnotreal even denied that they have a prisoner has that name...
