Tristan Thompson Declines Offer From Cleveland Cavaliers? Becomes Free Agent Next Season?

Tristan Thompson will be leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers soon if the latest NBA rumors were to be believed.

When Thompson stepped in for an injured Kevin Love at the 2015 playoffs, the power forward successfully proved to everyone what he is capable of. Even if the Cavs were unsuccessful in defeating the Golden State Warriors, the team definitely saw the 24-year-old in a new light.

"Even though he couldn't average double digits in the scoring column, he was a game-changing presence," Bleacher Report pointed out.

"He imbued Cleveland with newfound levels of energy that stemmed largely from his never-ending reserve of hustle plays."

In January, Tristan Thompson refused to accept a four-year extension to his contract worth $52 million to the surprise of fans. It was said that the player would not settle for anything less than $80 million.

"I'm not really sure what the outcome will be, but all I know is Rich Paul is asking for five years and $94MM and the Cavaliers are $14MM short of that figure," Northeast Ohio Media Group's Chris Haynes told HoopsRumors.com's Chuck Myron.

"That's Randy Moss-type separation. There's limited to zero communication because of that tremendous gap."

As reported by Sports World, there is a huge possibility that Tristan Thompson may end up being a free agent next season. Both parties have been trying to work on a deal all summer but it seems like they are not even close to reaching a conclusion.

It was said that Thompson made it clear that he will not sign a long-term contract unless it is for the max.

"Cavs and Thompson were in a 'stalemate' over talks, as Thompson's situation doesn't have a great 'precedent' and that has made negotiations slow," the publication added. "Thompson has the talent for max money and as he watches other players get paid big, he wants that as well."
