Shortly after actor Kim Jae Won began filming a new drama, "Scandal," he surprised his fans by announcing that he was going to get married and that his bride-to-be was expecting his child.
The marriage will take place on June 28 in a ceremony that is part of a worship service. He has known his fiancée for a while but they only began dating last fall. It has been a whirlwind courtship.
"We are so attached to each other that we decided to get married only eight months after entering a steady relationship," said Kim.
The decision to marry was not made because of the pregnancy. The couple began talking about marriage in February and everything moved quickly after that. There was no need for their parents to meet, as they already knew each other.
"We were already neighborhood friends before that," said Kim, who is known for his roles in "My Little Bride," My Love Patzzi," "Romance" and "May Queen."
His new wife works in an office.
"She is hardworking, kind and warm, beautiful, and we are the same age," said Kim. "She's not a celebrity and yet she understands what I do. She is calm and yet outgoing."
It may seem like he is making a rash decision but he says he has wanted the stability of marriage and a family for some time.
"I promised that I would get married when I met my life partner," said Kim. And he did.
He apologized about confusing the public with the news of the wedding shortly before his new drama aired and promised to do his best to please viewers.
The drama "Scandal" will air in July. In the drama, he plays a detective, who discovers that the man he thinks is his father is actually the man who kidnapped him as a child. His kidnapper had a child who died when a building collapsed and he is really the son of the man that caused the collapse.
The drama also stars Shin Eun Kyung, who appeared in "Flames of Ambition." Jo Jae Hyun, who appeared in "New Heart," Park Sang Min, who was in "Incarnation of Money," and Kim Hye Ri, who appeared in the drama "Kingdom of the Wind."
Jo Yoon Hee, who recently starred in "Nine: Nine Time Travels" plays his love interest. The series will follow "One Hundred Year's Inheritance."
