'Mask Girl' Provocative Scenes Criticized
On August 18, the newest K-drama "Mask Girl," starring Hallyu stars Go Hyun Jung, Nana, Ahn Jae Hong, and rookie actress Lee Han Byul, made its debut on Netflix,
"Mask Girl" presents the story of an ordinary woman, Kim Mo Mi, who is insecure about her physical appearance. Every night, she is active as an internet broadcasting jockey, who works while hiding her face with a mask.
This drama adaptation is based on a famous webtoon of the same name and explores the turbulent story that happens when Kim Mo Mi accidentally gets involved in a major incident.
As "Mask Girl" premiered, attention is drawn to the main protagonist Kim Mo Mi.
In particular, Nana plays the role of Kim Mo Mi B, who changes her face by undergoing plastic surgery and lives a luxurious life as a showgirl and then gets imprisoned.

Changes have been made to many parts of the story, and the characters' relationships, which shocked the viewers with many new twists. These changes, such as extreme provocation depictions of the characters, caused inconvenience to the audience.
Nana's Character Disappoints Audience
Despite Nana making a comeback, viewers were disappointed and complained of discomfort over the violence and sensationalism caused by Nana's character.
In the drama, Kim Mo Mi kills Joo Oh Nam (Ahn Jae Hong) and spends millions fixing her face before living as a showgirl.
Unfortunately, after committing the crime, she fails to seek medical treatment and ends up killing Choi Bu Young (Lee Joon Young), who works with her. She also abandons her child.

As the story progresses, after receiving a sentence of life imprisonment, the uncomfortable stimuli continues to happen.
Nana's character's backside gets exposed when she enters the jail, undressed, and goes for inspection, which evokes uneasiness.
According to a source, people might question whether continuous exposure was truly necessary in the series.
Disturbing elements continues as the female lead consistently assaults the lower-tier prisoners to ensure that no one bothers her.
Throughout the viewers' experience, despite the exceptional performances of the actors and impressive direction of the series, the unsettling theme of "Mask Girl" received negative response.
