Yeo Jin Goo Opens Up on His Struggles as Child Actor: 'I Was Blaming Myself A Lot'

Yeo Jin Goo recalled his acting debut after joining various K-dramas as a child actor.

K-drama fans and viewers have watched the 26-year-old star transition from playing younger versions of top stars to headlining his own series.

Landing his first ever acting project, he made his debut in the 2005 film "Sad Movie," while his K-drama debut was in 2006 for the series "I Want to Love."

Because of Yeo Jin Goo's undeniable talent, he was once dubbed "Nation's Little Brother" for playing a slew of younger versions of the lead roles like "Missing You," "Moon Embracing the Sun," and more.

Interestingly, after 19 years, Yeo Jin Goo has landed his first ever villain role in the movie "Hijacking" with Ha Jung Woo and veteran actor Sung Dong Il.

During his interview, the former child star dishes on the changes in his career and the challenges he faced as a young actor.

Yeo Jin Goo Reveals Struggles as Child Actor

While Yeo Jin Goo managed to build his own filmography with his remarkable projects, may it be TV shows or on the big screen, he admitted that he had to sacrifice a lot of things as a child actor.

The 26-year-old star confessed that he didn't even know how to ride a train or pay college tuition.

Furthermore, during the filming of his movie "Hwayi: A Monster Boy" in 2013, he couldn't even watch it in theaters because of his age.

"I was a minor at the time, so I waited alone in the waiting room, eating a hot dog."

He added that he got to see the movie after he turned 20.

Despite the recognition and fame he got working as a child star, Yeo Jin Goo confessed that it was also a difficult time for him.

"As my works were doing well one after another, I thought to myself, 'I have to do well.' I think I've been restricting myself a lot by thinking, 'I have to be praised and look good.'"

According to him, he used to see acting as "fun and enjoyable," but he came to a point where he couldn't enjoy it as much as he used to.

"I felt sad, but going to the field was a fun and happy experience, but now I felt like I was blaming myself a lot as I went to a place where I had a lot of work to do."

With his 19 year career as an actor, Yeo Jin Goo has amassed various kinds of recognition. He became the youngest new actor award-winner at the Blue Dragon Film Awards for "Hwayi: A Monster Boy" at the age of 17.

In addition to this, he also took home the Excellence Award Actor in a Serial Drama for the role of Prince Yeo Ing in "The Royal Gambler" during the 2016 SBS Drama Awards.

Yeo Jin Goo Plays Villain in Hijacking

Viewers will be witnessing a new Yeo Jin Goo as he plays the antagonist in the action suspense film "Hijacking," slated to hit theaters on June 21.

Transforming as Yong Dae, he hijacked a commercial plane after his brother was accused of being a defector in North Korea.

Meanwhile, Ha Jung Woo and Sung Dong Il play pilots Tae In and Gyu Sik, while Chae Soo Bin portrays Ok Soon, the only stewardess on the aircraft.
