The late Jang Mi Ja, a beloved veteran movie and soap opera actress and voice actress who recorded some of Korea's most iconic dramas throughout her career, died on January 27 at the age of 84.
As reported by MyDaily, Jang died from a chronic illness the same morning, according to the Korea Broadcasting Actors' Union.
Jang was born in 1941 and made her theatrical debut in 1962 in the play Without the Pain of Breaking the Shell.
She took part in the first voice actor class in 1963 at DBS Dong-A Broadcasting, which later became KBS's sixth open recruitment.
She embarked on her film career in 1981, acting in the film Ban Geum-ryeon.
Jang had a robust career in theatre and on television. She was also famously known as the "nation's mother-in-law" for her vicious portrayal of a mother-in-law in the popular drama Couple Clinic - Love and War.
Other works of hers include Dalmuri, Land, The 2nd Republic, and King the Land.

Jang, a fellow DBS actor married to Park Woong, also often performed on stage with her husband. The two last appeared on stage together in 2024's Dancing Silver Portrait.
Her husband and their two sons — Park Joon, who is also an actor — survive her.
A funeral will be held at 6 AM on January 29 at the Funeral Home at Seoul National University Hospital, and the burial will be carried out at the Seoul City Crematorium.
