The 19th Annual Global Mobile awards came to life at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The Award winners were recognized in a ceremony by the GSMA community.HTC's surprise win over the amply hyped Samsung Galaxy as best smartphone of the year spoke volumes for the Chinese manufacturer.
The GSM association is a group of mobile operatorscommitted to standardizing and promoting GSM mobile phone system.
John Hoffman, CEO, GSMA Ltd. said in a statement, "Now in the 19th year, the Global Mobile Awards once again showcase the outstanding level of innovation and creative products and services being developed across a diverse and growing industry."
Hoffman continued to say, "With more than 680 high calibre entries this year, the competition was stronger than ever and it is a significant achievement to have been honoured today. The awards were presented by Chairman, GSMA and President Jon Fredrik Baksaas,and CEO Telenor Group, Anne Bouverot, Director General, GSMA and John Hoffman, CEO, GSMA Ltd.
Reps from sponsors Maxim Integrated, media partners, Fortune, Time and CNBC were also present along with judges who co-presented awards.
