When actors Kwon Sang Woo and Son Tae Young married in September 2008, his fans were not too pleased.
"After I got married, membership in my fan cafe dwindled from 240,000 to 135,000. It was like a stock market crash," said Kwon, who currently stars in the drama "Temptation."
Fans objected to the marriage, saying Son was involved in too many dating scandals because she dated a few celebrities. Kwon Sang Woo posted a heartfelt message on his fan café page asking fans to believe in his decision to love her and saying that he too had been in previous relationships that did not work out.
Eventually the actor's fans came to accept Kwon's marriage to the actress, fashionista and former "Miss Korea."
Kwon Sang Woo and Son Tae Young recently told TV Report that she is 11 weeks pregnant with their second child and they expect their child to be born in February 2015.
The couple had their first child in February 2009. They named their son Luke but he is known by his nickname Rookie or Ruk Hee. So it was only fitting that Ruk Hee's response to the news of a new sibling was to think up a nickname.
Six-year-old Ruk Hee nicknamed the baby "Heart."
The actors met because he liked the way she looked on the small screen. Kim Sung Soo, Kwon's co-star in "Bad Love" set up an introduction at a dinner party. Kwon Sang Woo had asked to meet the actress after seeing her in MBC's variety show "Come To Play." He was not the only one who wanted to meet the actress at that dinner party but he was the most determined.
"Kwon Sang Woo stayed until the end and was able to win her," said Kim.
Son Tae Young stayed home for the first four years of Ruk Hee's life but she did not give up on her acting career. In 2013 she played Lee Hye Shin, Lee Soon Shin's sister in "You're The Best Lee Soon Shin." And that same year she had a cameo performance in her husband's hit melodrama "Yawang."
Kwon Sang Woo supported his wife's decision to return to work but she will soon take more time off to prepare for her next child.
This spring she appeared in the docudrama "Into The Flames" but for the next few months she will focus on her health and the upcoming birth. Kwon Sang Woo has reunited with his former co-star Choi Ji Woo to play a man so desperate he is tempted to throw away his marriage.
