Model-turned-actor Hong Jong Hyun and After School's Nana have denied that they are seeing each other. If they were dating, it would be awkward, as he currently appears on the reality program "We Got Married," paired up with Girls Day member Yoo Ra.
Hong Jung Hyun and Nana met on an episode of 'Style Log' and, according to an article in the Korean magazine Woman Sense, started dating seven months ago. The magazine reported sightings of the two together at an Incheon theme park and near his Gangnam apartment.
But the stars say they are not dating. They are obviously close, but according to his agency, Yong Entertainment, they are not dating.
Her agency, Pledis Entertainment, also said the celebrities were not in a romantic relationship.
"The scandal is not true."
Dating is a no-no when you appear on the reality show "We Got Married" and the show's producer Sun Hye Yoon expressed some concerns.
"I asked Hong Jong Hyun about his relationship with Nana because since we deal with a pretend marriage, his being in a real relationship might affect his devotion to the program. He said they were close friends and that the rumors might have started because they look so friendly together."
But even if Hong Jung Hyun was interested in perhaps one day dating Nana, he could never say as much. That might cost the "Mama" and "Her Lovely Heels" star his appearance on "We Got Married."
That happened to actress Oh Yeon Seo in 2013 when she was rumored to be dating fellow actor Lee Jang Woo. Some reports said she admitted as much. But after the scandal broke, she swore that she was not really dating Lee Jang Woo and that the two were close colleagues. She apologized to Lee Joon on the program for involving him in the scandal. She cried. He said he believed her.
After the episode aired, more than 500 people posted comments on the show's official forum. Netizens praised Lee Joon for being understanding but others were upset by what they perceived to be Oh Yeon Seo's betrayal. Netizens asked for her dismissal from the program.
Both stars opted out of the show due to "scheduling issues." On SBS Incarnation, Lee Joon said that it's possible for a man and a woman to just meet up but that the situation was blown out of proportion and his co-star took the brunt of the criticism.
"I didn't date her for real and I don't think she did anything wrong," he said. "But I suddenly became the icon in a tragic role and looked really pitiful."
Hopefully the dating rumors will not prematurely end the "We Got Married" run for Hong Jung Hyun and Yoo Ra.
