Actress Bae Doo Na and her British boyfriend have called it quits.
Her agency Saet Byul Entertainment announced the news with a simple statement.
"Bae Doo Na and her significant other Jim Sturgess recently broke up."
Bae and actor Jim Sturgess met when they co-starred in the 2012 film "Cloud Atlas." In the film they played lovers whose relationship endured through time and various reincarnations. In one of their incarnations they played a married couple.
At first the actors kept their relationship private but rumors began to spread in 2013. The couple was snapped on a California beach and in a Seoul bakery. His friends referred to her as his girlfriend. The couple did not deny their relationship but Bae did not feel compelled to admit it. She said that public interest in her relationship made her uncomfortable and that she would be thankful if people were not so interested.
She did not publicly acknowledge her relationship with Sturgess until he showed up to support her at the 2014 Cannes International Film Festival.
Bae was invited to the festival because of her role in the film "A Girl At My Door," which was featured in the Un Certain Regard section of the festival. The film told the story of a girl who was abused and the police officer that helps her. Bae played the police officer.
When interviewed at the festival, Bae finally referred to Sturgess as her boyfriend. The British actor is known for roles in films such as "100 Days of Scandal" and "21." He can be seen this year in the films "London Fields" and "Kidnapping Mr. Heineken."
Bae's agency admitted that the couple had split up but said they did not know any details. At any rate, the couple's reasons are private.
"Please understand that we can't reveal more of her personal life," said the Saet Byul Entertainment representative.
Bae Doona became an international star thanks to her role in Bong Joon Ho's ecological horror film, "The Host."
