Actor Lee Jung Jae is the latest Korean actor to sign a contract to work on a Korean-Chinese production. He will appear in the film "The Day Of Reversal," which is being produced by China's biggest movie company, China Film Group Corporation.
Although a Chinese company will produce the film, the story is set mainly in Korea and much of it will be filmed there. The production schedule has set aside two months for filming at various Korean locations.
According to his agency, C-JeS Entertainment, Lee Jung Jae traveled to the 5th Beijing International Film Festival to help promote the film. He attended the festival's closing ceremony, which took place on April 23.
"It is his first time appearing in a Chinese film and his appearance at the Beijing International Film Festival is his first official activity for the movie," said the C-JeS representative.
While the 42-year-old actor was in China, he met with the film's director Li Jun and other members of the movie's staff to discuss the upcoming production. The film is set to begin shooting this summer.
It was not Lee Jung Jae's first offer to work in China but it was the first one he accepted. The actor, who made his acting debut in the 1993 drama "Dinosaur Teacher,' has focused mostly on films since 2009. His recent films include "The Thieves," "New World," "The Face Reader" and "Big Match." This summer he can be seen in the film "Assassination," which has a July release date.
"Assassination" is set during the 1930s when Japan ruled Korea. In that film he plays Yeom Suk Jin, an agent with the interim Korean government. He is working to achieve Korean independence. Yeom Suk Jin is part of the attempt to assassinate a Japanese army commander. In the film Jun Ji Hyun plays a sniper and Ha Jung Woo plays a contract killer.
Having signed on to appear in "The Day Of Reversal," Lee Jung Jae joins the long list of Korean celebrities who worked on Chinese productions. That growing list of celebrities includes Song Hye Kyo, Rain, Kim Tae Hee, Kim Bum, Son Ye Jin, Song Seung Hoon and Kim Bum.
