From Award-Winning Actor to Controversial Star: What Happened to Yoo Ah In?
Yoo Ah In was indicted by the prosecution without detention on October 19 due to charges involving habitual use of propofol, using someone else's name to purchase illegal prescriptions for sleeping pills, smoking marijuana, instigation, and destruction of evidence.
At the time, the authorities claimed that the actor administered propofol, an anesthetic and sedative drug, 181 times from September 2020 to March 2021. He was also accused of illegally prescribing and buying sleeping pills in the name of another person from May 2021 to August 2022.
Due to this, the police requested a warrant of arrest against the actor twice, but both were dismissed by the court; the first was in May 2023 and the second in September of the same year.
Per a news report, the court saw that as an "insufficient" reason to put Yoo Ah In on an arrest warrant.
Moreover, the court also pointed out that the actor "admitted to his crimes of smoking marijuana, and [the court] has a significant amount of relevant evidence already collected."
Due to the ongoing controversy, Yoo Ah In stepped down from his role in "Hellbound 2," while the release of his new K-drama "Goodbye Earth" and the upcoming movie "High Five" were also affected by the controversy.
