MWC 2014 Day 3 in Barcelona has had its share of action. You might think to the contrary after the 19th GSMA Global Mobile Awards were pronounced.
In a nutshell, HTC One won the best smartphone of the year award, shoving Samsung's Note 3 to the side. It goes to show that what consumers really want and it's not simplicity or lifestyle adjustment phone. The proof for HTC One lies in the fact that it is one 'screaming' smartphone without too many distractions.
Better yet, it is a 'made in China' phone, which also says Samsung, Apple which specifically made the iPhone 5c for the mainland, will have stiff competition from Chinese manufactuers.
So far, the big guns have announced their debuts with Samsung S5 making most of the noise. But there have been other majors who have also made a stire in Barcelona 2014.
Sony deserves credit for its Z2, which is also waterproof, the tablet Z2 and an M2 medium device. The Japanese phonemaker is a favorite among smartphone enthusiasts because it is slim, and has all the functions that a smartphone should.
On Wednesday, MWC 2014 Barcelona Day 3, Motorola released a smart watch, a trend this year at the MWC, there was some car tech news,a brief to Sony's wearable camera, Sony Life that tracks just about everything you do and an unveiling of Sony's smartband.
Many of the smart wearable devices like wrist bands and bracelets covered fitness and health,but you might be surprised by Sony's wearable log that tracks your whole life - sort of like a digital photo journal.
It creates 'life bookmarks' that you can look at later in your life, and the wearable will guid you throw where you went, with whom, and what you were doing. The Sony smart band goes on sale in March.
With Apple still experiencing a delayed effect in its launch calendar and Samsung S5 stealing the show with an earlier Gear 2, Gear Fit release than the iWatch,it will be interesting to see how Sony will play out in this picture.
