There's been very little news about the Google Glass 2 and if it has been "killed" in the assembly line after the public's less than positive reaction to computerized headwear. Amid the rumors of the death of the Google Glass, reports say the Glass 2 is being reworked.
Google announced recently that it would be stopping sales of Google Glass 2 and consumers are skeptical about the future of Google Glass. A revamped version of Google Glass 2 is expected to be released in 2015.
Google has also announced that it will be stopping the Google Glass Explorer program which placed the Glass in beta so users could give feedback. Launched in 2012, Google Glass began with an explorer price tag of a whopping $1500, considerably higher than what a high-end smartphone would go for. After a number of instances where people wearing the headgear were construed as taking photos and videos nonchalantly in restaurants and public places, the term 'glassholes'
popped up to describe the exclusive nature of Google Glass.
The Explorer 2 program was used to create more awareness about Google Glass among the public, but negativity surrounding its use sill exists. The CES 2015 trade fair was no different as attendees showed little interest in the Glass as Ian Campbell CEO of Nucleus Research explained, "Google Glass is a great example of good product looking for a
problem," reported Latino Post.
The price is another discouraging factor for the few techies that want to try the new Google Glass 2. Robert Scoble told
idigitaltimes.com, "if it's $600 and dorky looking, it'll be doomed."
$600 is a hefty price when considering other recent technologies such as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus.
However, analysts are unsure if the price will pull in customers. Components of Google glass explorer edition 2.0 cost $210. This should decrease the prize on Google glass explorer edition 2.0 smart camera to $500, giving the wearable device a good chance to price itself reasonably in the wearable market.
While more than 50% of those polled in a survey said they were too embarrassed to wear the Google Glass 2 in front of other people, Google reassures them that proper use of Google Glass etiquette would overcome the technopanic and glasshole anxiety common to new users.
